One drop of water helps to swell the ocean; a spark of fire helps to give light to the world. None are too small, too feeble, too poor to be of service. Think of this and act.

Sustainability Contest Leads to "Green" Ideas, Fun & Prizes

On behalf of the Boardman Sustainability Committee, many thanks to everyone who participated in the sustainability contest this summer and to all who came to the sustainability picnic Wednesday August 12, at James Madison park, where the prize winners were announced. We were thrilled to receive so many thoughtful and creative sustainability entries (the complete list can be viewed, here.)

A recap of the winners:

  • Grand First Prize to Alan Mayer, for "walking" the walk by making around 9 percent of his supply purchases "green"—purchases which are used every day at the firm (for example biodegradable flatware in the break room). Alan will receive a gift certificate to Johansen's garden store (since he already has a nice bike).

Honorary Second Prize(s) to:

  • Susanne Bilstad
  • Beth Girga
  • Tess O'Brien-Heinzen
  • Jane Ames
  • LuAnn Peterson
  • Tiffany Pelanek

Each of the second prize winners will receive a gift certificate of their choice to either the Dane County Farmer's Market, L'Etoile restaurant on Capitol Square, or the Fair Indigo trade store at Hilldale mall.

Congratulations to all Winners!

The Sustainability Committee will be looking to implement as many of the ideas as possible in the next weeks and months. And we will continue do as much as we can to help promote sustainability practices at the firm -- recognizing that many of us are already doing more than their share to be more efficient, reduce paper, conserve energy, recycle, promote wellness and enhance our wider communities.
